Find the correct Epson ColorWorks ink
Match the printer family, cartridge code, color and black configuration before ordering. This guide maps current Epson label printers to the genuine consumables they use.

Use the ink code assigned to the exact printer family. The CW-D3800 uses SJIC56P, the CW-C4000 uses SJIC41P, the CW-C6000 and CW-C6500 use SJIC35P, and the CW-C8000 uses 480 mL SJIC47P ink packs. For models sold with gloss-black or matte-black configurations, confirm the printer version before buying black ink.
Epson printer to ink family map
Do not choose by cartridge shape, printer width or color name alone. Use the full model and supply code.
| Printer family | Ink family | Ink type | Color configuration | Maintenance item |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| ColorWorks CW-D3800 | SJIC56P | Dye ink | Individual cyan, magenta, yellow and black cartridges | Confirm the current maintenance item for the exact unit |
| ColorWorks CW-C4000 | SJIC41P | UltraChrome DL pigment ink | Cyan, magenta, yellow and gloss black or matte black | SJMB4000 |
| ColorWorks CW-C6000 and CW-C6500 | SJIC35P | UltraChrome DL pigment ink | Cyan, magenta, yellow and gloss black or matte black | SJMB6000/6500 |
| ColorWorks CW-C8000 | SJIC47P | UltraChrome DL pigment ink | 480 mL cyan, magenta, yellow and gloss black or matte black packs | SJMB7500 |
Important: Gloss black and matte black are not interchangeable buying choices just because both appear in a family. Confirm how the printer was configured or sold, then order the matching black supply.
What each Epson ink system is designed for
CW-D3800: SJIC56PCompact dye-ink workflow
The D3800 uses individual SJIC56P cyan, magenta, yellow and black cartridges. Dye ink can support vivid product and retail presentation on compatible coated labels.
Record the complete code with the printer. Do not substitute C4000 cartridges even though both printers are compact 4-inch ColorWorks models.
CW-C4000: SJIC41PCompact pigment-ink system
The C4000 uses individual SJIC41P cartridges. Epson lists cyan, magenta and yellow plus a black cartridge matched to the gloss or matte printer configuration.
Keep the SJMB4000 maintenance box in the reorder plan. The maintenance box is a normal consumable that receives ink used during maintenance activity.
CW-C6000/C6500: SJIC35P4-inch and 8-inch production
The C6000 and C6500 share the SJIC35P cartridge family across auto-cutter and peel-and-present configurations. They use individual cyan, magenta, yellow and the correct gloss or matte black cartridge.
The shared family simplifies inventory for operations running both widths. Keep the SJMB6000/6500 maintenance box available at each production site.
CW-C8000: SJIC47PHigh-capacity 480 mL packs
The C8000 uses SJIC47P UltraChrome DL pigment ink packs. Epson lists 480 mL cyan, magenta, yellow and gloss-black or matte-black options for higher-volume production.
Plan pack inventory around ink coverage and peak jobs. The related maintenance item is the SJMB7500, which is also used with some earlier ColorWorks platforms.
Confirm the black configuration first
Epson sells C4000, C6000, C6500 and C8000 variants with black ink selected for different media needs. The exact product page and printer configuration determine which black supply belongs in the unit.
- Read the full model description or configuration.
- Check the existing black cartridge or pack code.
- Match the replacement to the documented printer setup.
- Do not infer the black type from the current label finish alone.
- Keep gloss and matte black inventory physically separated.
What about cyan, magenta and yellow?
The color cartridges remain within the same printer-specific family, but they still need their own suffix and SKU. For example, SJIC41P-C is the C4000 cyan supply, while SJIC35P-C is the C6000/C6500 cyan supply.
A purchase request that only says "Epson cyan" is incomplete. Include the printer model, ink family and color on every internal reorder.
A five-point ink reorder check
- Confirm the exact printer model on the front label or settings screen.
- Match the cartridge family: SJIC56P, SJIC41P, SJIC35P or SJIC47P.
- Select the correct cyan, magenta, yellow or black code.
- For black, confirm gloss or matte configuration.
- Add the correct maintenance box when it is near its limit.
Build a station-specific reorder card
Post a short list beside each printer with approved ink and maintenance SKUs, supplier contact, minimum stock and reorder quantity. This prevents a rushed operator from ordering a visually similar but incompatible supply.
For multiple locations, use the printer serial number or station name on the purchase order so the shipment reaches the right system.
Protect ink before it reaches the printer
- Keep cartridges sealed until installation.
- Follow Epson temperature and storage guidance.
- Rotate stock by received date.
- Keep the package and code readable.
- Do not mix loose cartridges from different printer families.
- Plan extra stock for seasonal demand and supplier lead time.
Measure cost per accepted label
Ink cost depends on artwork coverage, label size, print mode, maintenance activity and rejected output. A cartridge price or theoretical yield cannot answer every workflow.
Test representative labels and track ink, media, maintenance, setup labour and waste. Divide by labels accepted for application or shipment.
